I find it handy to search other areas of the US than where I am currently living by US zip code. I think this will help all, in planning large fields and seeing other states they may have portals. For example I currently live in Tulsa, OK and am planning to move later this summer to Albuquerque, NM and am interested in checking out the portal situation there.

I guess this is not needed, I figured out how to move the map easily

There's a few ways to do it... you can use the icon that will take the map to your current location. You can also jump to the intel map centered on any portal from the portal info page (under the "Maps" area on the portal detail page).

While it's certainly possible to add a search function to the intel map, I messed with it early on and it seemed users weren't using it all that much and just added clutter more than anything (especially when on a mobile device).
